A high-level delegation from Hamas visits Damascus for the first time in more than 10 years | News

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), announced today, Tuesday, that a leading delegation from it will visit the Syrian capital, Damascus, tomorrow, Wednesday, in the first high-level visit since it left Damascus more than 10 years ago.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said that the delegation will arrive in Damascus tomorrow, Wednesday, under the leadership of Khalil al-Hayya, head of the movement’s Arab and Islamic Relations Office.

Qassem added that the delegation’s visit is part of a visit that a number of faction delegations will make to Damascus, but Qassem did not disclose the nature of the files that the delegation will discuss with Syrian officials.

On September 15, Hamas announced that it is continuing to normalize its relations with the Syrian regime.

She stated, in a statement at the time, that this decision is in the service of the nation and its just causes, at the heart of which is the question of Palestine, especially in light of the accelerating regional and international developments.

Hamas severed its relationship with the Syrian regime in 2012, in support of the Syrian revolution.
