27-year-old man learns he’s allergic to his own semen

An American who complained of catching the flu every time he masturbated was able to discover, by consulting a doctor, the real reason for his symptoms.

As reported Gizmodo et Futurathe young man had come (LOL) to not practice any sexual activity, whether alone or with another person, to avoid having to face symptoms as unpleasant as coughing, sneezing and itchy eyes.

After presenting himself at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Minnesota, the anonymous man struggling with the bizarre and rare condition was taken care of by intern Andrew Shanholtzer to whom he told his story.

Following epididymitis (an inflammation of the epididymis, the duct that stores and transports sperm from the testicles) suffered around the age of 18, he noticed that following each of his ejaculations, he began to experience the same symptoms as a cold or flu.

And from ejaculation to ejaculation, these became stronger and stronger, which forced him not to invest in romantic relationships in order to preserve his good health.

However, neither the three urologists, nor the ENT, nor the specialist in infectious diseases and nor the allergist he consulted were able to determine the real link that lay between the manifestation of flu symptoms and the patient’s orgasms.

It was finally Dr. Shanholtzer and his team who succeeded, following blood tests, in making the long-awaited diagnosis: the man suffered from post-orgasmic illness syndrome.

People who have it have hay fever or flu-like symptoms following ejaculation, such as fatigue, itchy eyes, stuffy or runny nose, and even memory problems.

These symptoms can appear following every or almost every orgasm, usually within seconds but sometimes up to hours later, and can last from two to seven days.

The majority of sufferers are men.

However, it is not clear whether sperm or seminal fluid cause the allergy.

Fortunately, the story ends well for our friend who is allergic to his sperm: by taking fexofenadine, a well-known and inexpensive antihistamine, every day, he was able to start doing once more what he had not been able to do for nearly 9 years old, that is, masturbating without starting to sneeze.

And since the treatment has reduced his symptoms by 90%, he can also consider starting a romantic relationship.
