alcohol in: Driver (36) turns three times in the middle of A1 because she “got lost”
On Monday morning, a 36-year-old woman made at least three turning maneuvers on the A1 motorway between Niederbipp and Gunzgen and drove several kilometers on the wrong lane. The police are now looking for witnesses.
On Monday night, shortly following midnight, a road user reported a wrong-way driver to the police. This was on the A1 motorway near Niederbipp in the wrong direction.
Several patrols from the Solothurn canton police immediately moved out to stop the wrong-way driver. “At Oberbuchsiten, the driver was found on the wrong lane in the direction of Bern,” said the Kapo. At that point in time, the driver was regarding to turn her vehicle in the middle of the freeway in order to continue driving in the correct direction.
In Egerkingen, the police were finally able to wave the driver out for a check. The woman also gave the police officers an explanation for the previous, dangerous maneuvers: “She stated that she got lost and therefore carried out several turning maneuvers,” reports the police. Finally, an alcohol test carried out on site provided another explanation: the test result was positive. The 36-year-old Swiss woman had to hand in her driving license on the spot.
No third parties were harmed during the odyssey. Nevertheless, the police want to examine the case closely: “To clarify the exact circumstances, the Solothurn cantonal police are asking the population for help. Anyone who can provide information regarding the various turning maneuvers or the driving style of the motorist is asked to report to the Solothurn canton police.”
