Pedro Castillo Ibero-American Association of Public Ministries rejects harassment, intimidation and interference against the Nation’s prosecutor, Patricia Benavides RMMN | POLITICS

The Ibero-American Association of Public Ministries (AIAMP) rejected any action of “harassment, intimidation and interference” once morest the prosecutor of the Nation, “in the legitimate exercise of their functions”.

Through a declaration, the signatories reaffirmed the defense of their autonomy and independence, and expressed their support for the head of the Public Ministry, following the constitutional complaint that he presented in Congress once morest President Pedro Castillo.

In the document, they reiterated their concern regarding the constant acts of political pressure that affect the Public Ministries, prosecutors and Attorney General’s Offices, “violating the autonomy and independence of these institutions in the framework of investigation work and criminal prosecution in all its manifestations, particularly with regard to organized crime”.

“In that sense, they recall what was stated by the Prosecutors and Attorneys General of Ibero-America on October 11, 2016, in the “Declaration of Lisbon” in that “the autonomy of the Public Ministry, compared to the legislative and executive powers constitutes a guarantee for the equality of citizens before the law, the independence of the courts and the credibility of the justice system”they underlined.

The pronouncement is signed by the attorneys general of Andorra, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Paraguayas well as by the attorneys general of Argentina, Brazil, Panama and Uruguay.

As remembered, The National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, filed a constitutional complaint once morest President Pedro Castillo before Congress. The 375-page document was reached on Tuesday followingnoon at the table of parts of Parliament.

Castillo is accused of being the alleged perpetrator of crimes once morest public tranquility in the form of criminal organizationaggravated by his condition as leader of a vertical structure, as well as by aggravated influence peddling and collusion.

It should be noted that the complaint also includes former ministers Juan Silva Villegas (Transport and Communications) and Geiner Alvarado (Housing, Construction and Sanitation).
