Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, revealed the details of exempting cars from Egyptians abroad from taxes, explaining that it is in the interest of Egyptians abroad, and this is their demand that they have been insisting on for 15 years.
And she added, during a telephone interview with the journalist Ahmed Moussa, on the “On My Responsibility” program, broadcast on the Sada Al-Balad channel, that this request was responded to and allowed to download cars with full customs and tax exemption and all expenses.
She added that this is in exchange for a citizen abroad placing a deposit in a bank. The executive version of the law will include all the details that the beneficiaries are asked regarding.
And Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, added that within 4 months, the car will be registered, and then the deposit will be linked to the foreign currency determined by the Ministry of Finance.
She stressed that registering the car and linking the deposit takes 4 months, following which a period of one year is given to the Egyptian abroad to complete the procedures, adding that this is an exceptional initiative for a period of 4 months.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, stressed that it is permissible to bring a car for an individual personally or for any member of his family over 16 years of age, provided that there is a bank account.
She explained that the Egyptian abroad will redeem the deposit following 5 years at the dollar price at that time, pointing out that the Egyptian citizen is 100% beneficiary of this initiative.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, added that there are fears among some Egyptians regarding the initiative, noting that the reaction is great and positive by 90%.
Regarding the talk of some regarding the large size of the deposit, the minister said: If the Egyptian abroad does not collect $5,000, he puts it as a deposit to bring his car, the Hesbah will still need to be reconsidered.
I expected that he would not differentiate with the state if the citizen resides in one of the Gulf countries and bought the car from another country, as long as he owns the car and has an account in the bank that has been over for at least 3 months and owns the deposit in the currency of the country in which he is located.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, continued that the law did not specify a specific year of manufacture for the car as long as it was brought from abroad by the first owner, and below that, the car is required to be a model of 3 years past.
She stressed that the law did not specify a specific hard currency, but rather the international currencies that are dealt with, adding that cars will not be banned and the owner can sell them at any time he wants.
She explained that the car, upon its arrival in Egypt, will have all its procedures completed and descend from the ship to the berth, and its owner will receive it immediately without incurring any other expenses as long as he did not leave it for a while in the port.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, indicated that the number of Egyptians abroad ranges between 10 and 12 million, and it is difficult to predict the number of those who bring cars from abroad and benefit from the initiative.
She continued, that she is communicating with the Egyptians in Russia and Ukraine via Zoom to check on them, and whether they are in safe places or not, noting that coordination is taking place with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the two embassies in Kyiv and Moscow.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, added that as a precaution, Egyptians in Ukraine should move to the nearest safe borders for them, and those residing in Romania have opened their doors to receive the community in Ukraine.
She stressed that the Egyptians in Russia began to worry some time ago, and therefore they must be reassured, pointing out that the number of Egyptians in Ukraine is very few, and these are the ones who were in places not experiencing unrest during the current period.
Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Affairs Abroad, concluded that caring for any person abroad is as if they were a thousand, because the human element and the Egyptian citizen is the focus of development.
