Online video footage appears to have shown a fire in the Evin prison in the Iranian capital, Tehran, which houses political prisoners.
Shooting and sirens were also heard, according to the “Archyde.com” agency, today, Saturday.
Video clips revealed that security reinforcements were directed to the prison following it caught fire.
For his part, an Iranian official said that Evin Prison witnessed a rebellion of prisoners and it was brought under control.
In parallel, the “Iran International” network, quoting witnesses, reported that part of the prison ceiling collapsed as a result of the fire.
Night demonstrations
This comes as, on Saturday evening, night demonstrations took place in the Naziabad district of the capital, Tehran.
Before that, students at Verhechtkan University and the Free University also staged a large demonstration, chanting anti-authorities and chanting “Woman life freedom”, a slogan that the demonstrators have been chanting in the country since the start of the movement regarding a month ago.

Meanwhile, several cities in the province of Kurdistan, in the west of the country, carried out all-out strikes.
Shops and markets have closed their doors in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan, and Mariwan, Saqqaz and others.
Video clips showed closed shops in Saqqaz and markets without sellers as well, and Mariwan joined the movement, closing its stores amid calls for a general strike that completely paralyzes the movement.

It is noteworthy that the death of 22-year-old Amini, on September 16, 3 days following her arrest by the morality police, and then her transfer to a hospital in Tehran, sparked widespread demonstrations in the country, which have not subsided so far.
Internet disconnected
Meanwhile, the authorities intermittently cut off the internet from mobile phones, in order to besiege protesters and prevent the spread of demonstration calls.
Officials also regularly accused the demonstrators of being dependent on the outside, and of treason, while the security forces arrested hundreds, including university students and schoolchildren.

Meanwhile, the violence adopted by the security forces killed at least 233 protesters, according to what the Iranian Human Rights Organization confirmed in a report published on October 12.
