We go to the dervishes and into their Sufi vortex, but we also visit the great American modernist Jasper Johns, we will go into an orgy of contradictions – so the piece’s title – as well as into a remarkable confusion of identities. All this with a concert by the ORF radio symphony orchestra at the ORF musikprotokoll festival in steirischer herbst. The concert was recorded exactly a week ago today in the Helmut List Halle in Graz. The authors of all these adventurous stories come from all over the world: Shiva Feshareki, Olga Neuwirth, Margareta Ferek-Petri? and Luna Alcalay. The RSO Vienna will be conducted by Yalda Zamani and by now it will be clear why these artists do not come from all over the world, but from all over the world: It is a concert with an exclusively female cast in almost all key positions. The soloists Maria Radutu and Tanja Tetzlaff are also there, and Annelie Gahl is exceptionally the concertmaster in the orchestra. Only the post scriptum for these four departures of the world premieres and first performances, two of which were realized with the support of VGR – Verwertungsgesellschaft Rundfunk, is another international adventure journey, but then male: We remember a world premiere in the final part of this Ö1 concert at the musikprotokoll with the RSO Vienna from 2019, a world premiere that was perceived as a sensation at the time, to the orchestral piece “Polychronia” by Mikheil Shugliashvili. At that time, Ylan Volkov conducted the RSO Vienna and parts of Mikheil Shugliashvili’s incredible “Great Chromatic Fantasy” for three pianos can still be heard today at the end of this Ö1 concert.
