AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho said he is waiting for what he described as “sharks” that failed in the Champions League, to meet them in the European League.
And Roma returned with a 1-1 draw from Real Betis stadium in the match that was held yesterday evening, Thursday, in the fourth round of the European League Group C account.
Roma raised its score to 4 points in third place in the group, but the Italian team has the opportunity to snatch the ticket to qualify for the first 16 round.
Real Betis leads the group with 10 points, and Bulgarian Ludogorets Razgrad comes second with 7 points, with two rounds remaining at the end of the round.
The first and second places qualify for the round of 16, while the runners-up play once morest one of the third-placed teams in the Champions League groups, while the third-placed in the European League groups moves to the Conference League.
The European League teams are awaiting a number of giants expected to move to play in the tournament following failing to qualify for the Champions League groups.
On top of these are Barcelona, Juventus, and Atlético Madrid.
When asked following the Real Betis match whether the Spanish team is a candidate for the continental title this season, Mourinho replied, “I see him as one of the favorites to win the tournament, but the “Sharks” that failed to qualify for the Champions League will arrive here, and they will come with all their strength, it will be fun.”
He added, as highlighted by the “Football Italy” website, “We seek to qualify from the group in second place, but if we finish the current round in third place, we will move to the Conference League Championship, then we will be candidates to crown the title for the second time in a row.”
Mourinho led Roma to win the European Conference title last season, in the first edition of the tournament.
