At the age of 19, Orlando Bloom narrowly escaped death, following a serious accident which might have left him quadriplegic, as he revealed as part of a mental health campaign.
As part of the campaign #OnMyMind de l’Unicefon the occasion of the world mental health day held on Monday, October 10, Orlando Bloom confided in no detour regarding the serious accident in which he was teenage victim. The star of Lord of the Rings and of Pirates of the Caribbean revealed to have fallen from the third floor of a building when he was 19. “I broke my back. I’ve had very lucky to survive to fall, because my spinal cord was still intact. I was told for the first four days that I may never walk once more“, confided the UNICEF ambassador, who had to undergo a spinal surgerybefore embarking on a long course of rehabilitation, during which he wearing a back corset.
“This experience truly constituted for me the starting point of a long and painful journey towards awareness of the cause and effect relationship between certain lifestyles that I had adopted and my many accidents. The highlight was breaking my back, which was A near-death experience“, remembered Orlando Bloom in a video posted on the social networks of Unicef.

“I suffered a lot”
The accident particularly affected his mental health followingwards. “The months following this accident were rather dark. As I had always had a very active life, I suddenly felt very limited. And then I suffered a lot“, revealed the companion of the singer Katy Perry, before continuing in favor of the release of speech: “Mental health is particularly complex because it is invisible. It is really essential to reach out to others, to talk to them, to find someone with whom to establish the communication that will make it possible to change and evolve.
