A declaration of war on the empty chip bag. For fashion lovers and those who have money to spare.
Opening a bag of chips is often a sobering experience. From year to year, it seems, one or the other potato gives way to the growing air space in the bag. Price and size stagnate, manufacturers can thus make a hidden price increase, almost unnoticed. At least at the time of purchase. Disappointment followed in the evening on the couch. The pack is passed around once so that everyone present can see for themselves that the pack is not even half empty. It’s always been like that, but it’s really never been so empty.
So maybe it’s not a bad idea to get a completely empty one right away. To evade disillusionment. If necessary, you can fill them yourself. Balenciaga offers such a specimen, color freely selectable. High-quality leather and a zip protect the contents (as the air space in chip bags is supposed to do, according to various manufacturers), and allow them to be reused. After Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director (as such, he doesn’t use his last name), just last season, models came with garbage bags ($1,790 each), bags of crisps were probably the next logical step. This was more or less announced at the final show of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in June. Demna was spotted there with an empty bag of chips. Found food for TikTok. And yet he is not the first designer to tamper with food packaging. The latest (fashion) homage to cravings even appears to be a collaboration between the fashion house and chips brand Lay’s, at least according to posts shared on the food maker’s social media channels. It remains to be seen – and to be hoped – whether the latter can afford a fuller chip pack once more as a result of the image refreshment.
