For Serge Savard, the hockey world is a “boys club”, and it is not surprising that the leaders of Hockey Canada hung on for so long before leaving.
“These guys sit in a seat where they have a board of directors who are volunteers. So they are not removable, ”he believes.
However, he believes that the resignation of the leaders is a step in the right direction.
“Before making changes, it always takes a crisis. If we hadn’t had that crisis, there wouldn’t have been any change, and the guys from Hockey Canada would be there for the next 20 years, sitting on $100 million,” says the former Hockey Canada player. hockey.
He also underlines the fact that the organization’s board of directors is a volunteer, which contributes to the re-election of leaders year following year.
“These guys, there is no one who had an eye on what they were doing,” said Mr. Savard.
He wants the provinces to take more power in the administration of hockey, and to hold the future leaders of Hockey Canada to account.
