The New York Yankees are hosting the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday for Game 1 of the best-of-five American League Division Series. The Yankees started ace Gerrit Cole on the mound, but the Guardians were able to take an early lead when rookie Steve Kwan hit a solo home run in the third inning. But Cole settled in, and the Yankees struck back. Harrison Bader tied the game with a solo homer, and then Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to make it 4-1 and chase Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill. Here’s how to watch Game 1.
The AL Central-champion Guardians got to this spot by sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in two games in the opening-round Wild Card Series. They were the only home team to win any of the four Wild Card Series. Meantime, the Yankees arrived here via first-round bye, which they earned by being one of the two top division winners in the AL. As you would imagine, the Game 1 stakes are high, as the winner of the opener in a best-of-five MLB postseason series goes on to win that series 71.3 percent of the time.
