Picasso’s art, Chanel’s fashion in dialogue at Madrid exhibition

Sharjah24 – AFP: The art of Pablo Picasso and the sober and timeless fashion of Coco Chanel, great figures of the 20th century who inspired each other, are placed face to face in an exhibition that opens at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.
Commenting on this, Paula Luengo, the exhibition’s curator, says that “it works very well to relate art and fashion”, adding that “it’s not easy to do”.

The exhibition curator said, “We are trying to make these kinds of exhibitions for all kinds of audience and it works very well to relate art and fashion, it’s not easy to do but visually, it works very well and I think that the public always learns something new.”

Cécile Debray , Musée Picasso director added, “The connection between Chanel and Picasso is interesting because it allows us to focus on the way Picasso played with the world of theatre and the world of fashion during the very specific years where he was in a couple with Olga, the Russian dancer, which was a something of the worldly moment in Picasso’s life.”

The Musée Picasso director continued, “I would be rather cautious regarding the Picasso-Chanel equivalence, I think they are two very different personalities with two very different activities too, but of course, both were absolutely committed to their art.”

Hélène Fulgence, head of heritage department Chanel pointed out, “Chanel and Picasso engaged with their century. Their lives, entirely devoted to creation, remain contemporary. Interpreters of their era, they grasped the spirit of their time and implemented aesthetic revolutions that echoed the profound transformations of society.”
