Terrifying footage of a tractor appearing out of nowhere at the Japanese Grand Prix has sparked outrage among Formula One fans.
Sunday’s race was quickly brought to a halt amid torrential rain in Suzuka when a safety car intervened following Carlos Sainz crashed into a barrier, before waving a red flag.
Then, a tractor was sent down the track to lift Sainz’s Ferrari, when Pierre Gasly was taking to the track following removing a piece of the billboard from under his front wing, finding the tractor coming towards him at high speed.
“I might have killed myself,” the French driver shouted on his team radio, in a scene that brought back memories of the accident that killed Jules Bianchi in the same race and in similar circumstances in 2014, when he suffered serious head injuries following colliding with a tractor and died the following year.
