Mars could have been teeming with subterranean microbes

and Jezero Crater, on the northwestern rim of Isidis Planitia, where NASA’s Perseverance rover is collecting rocks to return to Earth within a decade.

Next on Sauterey’s list is examining the possibility that microbial life might still exist inside Mars.

Could Mars still be inhabited by microorganisms descending from this primitive biosphere? he wondered. And if so, where?
