Wibe and Jessy, two 25-year-old Belgians on a trip to Rome, killed by a driver while helping road victims

Jessy Dewildeman and Wibe Bijls, two Flemish friends, had decided to go on a city trip to Rome this weekend. Everything was going well according to the pictures shared on their social networks until Saturday evening when they boarded a taxi.

They witnessed a road accident and had their vehicle stopped to help the victims. It was then that a speeding individual rammed them, killing them instantly.

The driver committed a hit-and-run but was fortunately able to be identified by the taxi’s dashcam footage. An investigation has been opened by the Italian police.

In Belgium, reactions to this tragedy are pouring in. Hundreds of acquaintances of theirs expressed their condolences. At Casa Mundo, the restaurant where Wibe Bijls worked, the young woman is described as “smiling and everyone’s friend”. One of his sisters also shared all his sadness: “When you think the worst has already happened, this happens to you”. Their father died recently, also of a road accident.
