He added that the American mediator informed him in a phone call that the observations on the proposal had been identified. A statement issued by the Lebanese presidency stated that “the Lebanese side will study the final version of Hochstein’s proposal carefully in preparation for taking the appropriate decision.”
Last week, Israel rejected last-minute changes made by Lebanon to the draft agreement, casting doubt on years of diplomatic efforts.
Officials from both countries have been in close contact through the American mediator during the past days in an attempt to resolve existing differences.
Despite the agreement’s limited scope, it would ease security and economic concerns in both countries, which have a common history of conflict.
The deal will resolve a territorial dispute in the eastern Mediterranean in an area where Lebanon aims to explore for natural gas, and near waters where Israel has found quantities suitable for commercial use.
