As the PC market plummets, Apple is doing well with Mac sales prancing far ahead of the competition. In its third-quarter probe, IDC announcement that Apple has just crossed the milestone of 10 million units delivered, a volume that has increased by 40.2% compared to the summer of 2021.
The Cupertino manufacturer is the only one in the top 5 to show growth in deliveries. The PC market is indeed depressed, with 74.5 million computers delivered, ie 15% less than a year ago. Lenovo, HP and Dell, in other words the top 3, show declines of between -27% and -16%.
It should be noted, however, that these delivery levels remain well above those recorded before the pandemic. IDC will monitor the average basket: in the first quarter, the average selling price (ASP) was $910, unheard of since 2004. But with demand weakening and promotions all over the place (except at Apple…), the ASP should definitely back down.
In terms of market share, Apple is growing strongly from 8.2% in the third quarter of last year to 13.5%.
