[디지털투데이 황치규 기자]PC shipments in the third quarter fell by 18% compared to the previous year, a survey showed.
Foreign media such as TechCrunch reported this on the 11th (local time), citing figures compiled by market research firm Canalys.
According to reports, Apple was the only company that grew year-over-year. Apple PC shipments grew 1.7% in the third quarter.
On the other hand, all other major PC makers suffered double-digit declines. It is analyzed that MacBooks and MacBooks equipped with M1 and M2 chips, which are custom-made chips by Apple, had a positive effect on sales.
IDC figures are similar to Canalys. But IDC said Apple’s shipments rose 4%, while Canalyst said it was up 1%.
According to Gartner data, PC shipments fell 19.6% in the third quarter. On the other hand, according to Gartner data, Apple PC shipments also fell 15.6% in the third quarter, drawing attention.
It’s difficult to explain the difference in Apple’s shipments between the three market research firms, as everyone has similar methodologies for tracking shipment numbers, TechCrunch said.
According to Canalys, total PC shipments in the third quarter were 69.4 million units. IDC and Gartner counted 74.2 million and 67.9 million units, respectively.
Lenovo ranked first in Canalys data with 17 million units shipped. Lenovo’s market share was 24%. In second place, HP shipped 12.7 million units and recorded an 18% market share. Dell ranked third with 12 million units (market share of 17%).
