Goseong ‘chaos’ until a physical fight

The conflict between the progressives and the conservatives is growing over the new curriculum reform that will be applied from the 2024 school year.

Even the public hearing, a place to exchange opinions, was stained with high-pitched voices and physical fights.

As it spreads into an ideological confrontation, the pain is likely to continue.

Reporter Jung Young-hoon reports.

Public Hearing on the New Curriculum General Discussion held last weekend.

While criticism continued that the phrase related to ‘labor human rights education’ was deleted from the reform plan,

“I condemn President Yoon Seok-yeol for deleting labor. In the main points of last year’s curriculum…”

Conservative group members stormed the podium.

Afterwards, physical fights and profanity abounded, and the public hearing hall was in chaos, and eventually went limp.

“I am concerned regarding the various concerns of those who participated, so I will end the public hearing with this.”

At recent public hearings, conflicts between liberals and conservatives over some expressions have led to lameness.

In Korean history, the expressions ‘June 25 invasion’ and ‘liberal democracy’ are controversial,

“In general, the word ‘free democracy’ does not appear, but ‘democracy’, right? There cannot be a curriculum that ignores the Constitution.”

In the subject of social studies and morals, there was a conflict over whether it was ‘gender equality’ or ‘gender equality’.

The ideological debate that has been repeated every time the curriculum is revised is being replayed.

In particular, the National Education Commission, which was launched last month, was filled with members with strong political affiliation, including Chairman Lee Bae-yong, who led the state textbooks.

“I am very concerned because there are such attempts to intervene with political logic in the realm of education.”

The new curriculum is deliberated and decided by the National Education Commission, and the Minister of Education makes a final announcement by the end of the year.
