They were carrying out a Mapuche ceremony in Villa Mascardi and gas was fired at them

Members of Mapuche communities and social organizations gathered this morning on the side of Route 40 in Villa Mascardi, a few meters from the land that was evicted last Tuesday, to perform a ceremony and were shot with tear gas issued by federal agents who remain in the conflict zone.

The incidents occurred in the conflict zoneregarding 35 kilometers from Bariloche, around 7:30 where remains the operational command of security forces since the eviction that last week ended with 7 women detained, of which four remain in house arrest, in a Mapuche center in the eastern part of Bariloche, and another 3 in offices of the Airport Security Police.

Mapuche women with children, representatives of communities, the Codeci and social organizations, arrived this morning at the conflict zone to carry out a ceremony. Once in the place, on the side of National Route 40, they received the shot of a tear gas that ricocheted off a car that was on the shoulderbelonging to one of the participants, a few meters from the people.

The smoke that emanated from the gas and the sounds of detonations caused discomfort of the people who participated in the ceremony, including the defense attorney for the detained women, Andrea Reile. There were insults and shouts, while detonations were heard inside the land that was evicted, where the federal agents would be.

Uniformed approached with Long weapons to the demonstrators to ask them to leave the place heading north, towards the service station that is a few meters away. The lawyer spoke with the agents and finally, the ceremony was held on the shores of Lake Mascardibelow the former park ranger hotel.

There was tension and verbal crossovers, but noor more incidents were recorded and no injuries were reported.

After noon, a group of Mapuche leaders with flags entered the fair of the Bariloche a la Carta event that takes place in the Civic Center.

Yesterday the werken (spokesman) of the Mapuche Parliament, Orlando Carriqueo, denounced the national government for the operation arranged in Villa Mascardi and considered that the action implies a “crime once morest humanity”.

The Center for Legal and Social Studies (Cels) also expressed its concern regarding the actions of the unified command of security forces and yesterday sent a note to various officials and agencies of the national State.
