Swiss flight LX2064 took off from Kloten Airport at 5:13 p.m. on Monday followingnoon. The destination of the travelers was Porto. But shortly following take-off, the plane had to turn around and make an emergency landing at Zurich Airport following less than an hour of flight time. The machine is an Airbus A220-300.
Upon request, Swiss confirms that flight 2064 from Zurich to Porto has turned around and returned to Zurich. “The cockpit crew noticed an unusual smell in the cockpit and decided to return for safety reasons,” it said. There were 141 passengers on board who are now being rebooked on alternative connections. Swiss cannot yet make any statements regarding the exact causes of the smell.
According to the Flightradar 24 website, fire engines were on the runway during the landing. Protection & Rescue confirmed to 20 minutes that the fire brigade is ready at the slope. A media spokeswoman for Zurich Airport informed 20 minutes that a technical defect had forced the plane to make an emergency landing. However, the landing in Zurich went smoothly.
