Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno announced on Monday the formation of a “government of national unity”, in “the very next few days”, during his inauguration as “transitional president” in Chad following a reconciliation dialogue nationwide boycotted by a large part of the civilian and armed political opposition.
This dialogue, which ended on Saturday in N’Djamena, had extended the transition to “free and democratic” elections by two years and ratified the possibility for Mr. Déby to run for them, 18 months following he took power in head of a military junta. The future government “will work body and soul so that the will of the Chadian people does not suffer from any sprain”, declared Mahamat Déby.
