[스포티비뉴스=조영준 기자] Kwon Soon-woo (25, Dangjin City Hall), who reached the semifinals of the men’s professional tennis (ATP) Japan Open, jumped up to 86th in the world rankings.
In the new ATP World Rankings released on the 10th, Kwon Soon-woo was ranked 86th, up 34 places from 120th last week.
Kwon Soon-woo advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Tour 500 Series Rakuten Open Singles, which ended in Tokyo, Japan on the 9th. After winning the Astana Open last year, they were aiming to advance to the finals for the first time in a year and a month, but in the semi-finals, they lost to Frances Tiapo (24, USA) 1-2 (2-6 6-0 4-6).
After the US Open, the last Grand Slam event of the year, at the end of last month, Kwon Soon-woo was pushed out of the top 100. This is because the winning points received at the Astana Open in September last year disappeared following a year.
Kwon Soon-woo, who climbed to 52nd, the highest personal ranking, in November last year, succeeded in returning to the top 100 in two weeks.
Carlos Alcaras (Spain) still holds the world No. Rafael Nadal (Spain) also maintained second place, and third place Casper Rood (Norway) remained unchanged.
Daniil Medvedev (Russia) took 4th place, and Stefanos Tsicipas (Greece), who finished runners-up at the Astana Open that ended on the 9th, took 5th place, up one step from 6th place last week.
Alexander Zverev (Germany) fell from fifth to sixth last week. Novak Djokovic (Serbia), who recently won the Tel Aviv Open and Astana Open consecutively, maintained 7th place.
Japan Open winner Taylor Fritz (USA) moved up three places to 8th place.
In the women’s professional tennis (WTA) world rankings, Iga Siviontech (Poland) maintained the first place. Ons Jaber (Tunisia) was in second place and Annette Kontabate (Estonia) was in third place.
Barbora Kreichkova (Czech Republic), who won the Agel Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic, jumped from 23rd to 14th.
Jang Su-jeong (Daegu City Hall) was ranked 130th, the highest among Korean players.
