Why Loire-Atlantique escapes fuel shortage

Less than ten stations lack diesel around Nantes, this Sunday, October 9, according to l’application participative Essence & Co. They are mainly located in the heart of the metropolis but also in Nozay and Pornic for example. Still according to Essence&Co, this Sunday evening, stations would be out of fuel in Saint-Etienne-de-Montluc, Couëron and Saint-Philbert de Grand-Lieu. For ten days, a social conflict has blocked several TotalEnergies and Esso-Exxon refineries and depots in Normandy, Rhône, Bouches-du-Rhône and the North. The Total refinery in Donges, in Loire-Atlantique, is not impacted and continues to operate.

Renewed strike action

The strike movement was renewed this Sunday, October 9. The management of TotalEnergies said it was ready, at the start of the followingnoon, to bring forward the annual wage negotiations initially scheduled for November. Staff are demanding a 10% increase in their salaries, in the face of inflation, while TotalEnergies made more than $10 billion in profits in the first half of 2022.

Difficult supplies

The stock-outs in the Total stations in Loire-Atlantique are less due to the strike than to the discount applied to the prices at the pumps. If we combine the Total rebate with that of the State, we are 50 cents cheaper per liter of fuel, we explain in the shop of a station in the Nantes metropolis. We are supplied every two days. Customers follow closely and immediately come to fill up. Our reserves are emptied in a single day. This represents approximately 600 to 700 customers. Supplies are difficult: delivery people are in demand from everywhere.
