Vladimir Putin accuses Ukrainian secret service of being behind the Crimean bridge explosion

Moscow evokes a “considerable increase” in Ukrainian fire on its territory

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) notes an intensification of Ukrainian fire targeting Russian territories bordering Ukraine. “Since the beginning of October, the number of attacks by Ukrainian armed formations once morest the border territories of Russia has increased significantly”writes the FSB, which is also responsible for border control, in a communiqué. This is above all the region of Belgorod, bordering that of Kharkiv, where the forces of kyiv have regained thousands of square kilometers of territory since the beginning of September, including up to the border. The Russian regions of Bryansk and Kursk are also targeted, according to the FSB.

“During the past week, more than one hundred bombardments of thirty-two localities have been recorded, with the use of multiple rocket launcher systems, artillery, mortars and drones”, he continues. According to the FSB, a “inhabitant was killed, and five people injured, including a child” in these Ukrainian bombings, which also destroyed two power stations, eleven residential buildings and two administrative buildings. Eight border checkpoints were also damaged, according to the same source.

The governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, accused Ukrainian forces on Sunday of having bombarded the monastery of Saint Nicholas of Gornal, which adjoins the border. “There were no casualties. One of the shells hit the building, the fire was quickly extinguished”he wrote on Telegram, supporting his words with photos of the damaged roof and wall.

Russian territories had already been targeted several times over the past seven months. On September 12, a strike on a Russian border crossing left one dead and four injured and damaged homes and power lines. In July, the Russian military accused kyiv of firing three missiles at the city of Belgorod. In April, an oil depot, regarding 40 kilometers from the border, was attacked by Ukrainian helicopters, according to Russia.
