Doha: Preparations are in the final stage at Abu Samra, the land border of Qatar, to receive the fans of the World Cup. The renovation and expansion work will be completed by the end of this month.
The President of Public Works Authority (Ashgal) Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi stated that the Abu Samra border crossing project will be fully ready by the end of this month. With the completion of the project, the number of service lines and the capacity of passport and customs units have also been increased to allow more vehicles to enter the country at the same time through the border. The expansion of the project will help to further strengthen passenger and freight traffic.
A new passenger terminal has also been constructed as part of the expansion. A refrigeration system has also been installed in the building which includes customs inspection units for trucks entering and returning to the country. The Prime Minister visited the border crossing last day and reviewed the progress of expansion and renovation works.
Expansion of Border Crossing
∙The number of passport lines for arrivals and departures has been increased from nine to 24 lines.
∙The exit and entry sections of 48 tourist tracks will accommodate 12,000 vehicles per hour each.
∙ Number of customs building (arrival) lines increased from 28 to 36
∙ The temporary vehicle parking capacity has been increased from 1,400 to 4,500.
∙ New passenger hall of 10,000 square meters which can accommodate 2,000 visitors per hour on arrival and departure.
∙44 passport and 22 customs checking counters.
∙ 4.5 km road has been upgraded. 1.3 km sewage network and 2.5 km rain water drainage network have been constructed.
∙ 2 square kilometers more greened. 4 Roundregardings beautified. Infrastructure has also been improved.
∙ 3 dedicated lines for trucks, parking facility of 1,50,000 square meters for 500 trucks.
