FM4 favorite songs: Danger Dan – fm4.ORF.at

The musician, rapper and pianist Danger Dan has delivered one of the most surprisingly successful albums of the last year with “That’s all covered by artistic freedom”. We met him on tour to talk to him regarding songs that shaped him and still accompany him today.

Next year Danger Dan will celebrate his 40th birthday. At a still secret location in Berlin. “With all my friends,” he said. Advance ticket sales will decide exactly where the big birthday concert will take place. Can millions of plays in digital space and the discourse regarding the freedom of art sung regarding in the track be translated into 100, 1,000 or even 10,000 ticket sales? Rather the latter.

The spring 2021 tour for Danger Dan’s piano album “It’s all covered by artistic freedom” was sold out within a very short time and provided with additional dates. So the concert calendar is packed to the brim. Runs. the Antelope Gang is also busy (Austrian dates in March 2023!) and the collaboration between “Antilopen Anfuhrer” Koljah and Bobby Fletcher was recently released on the joint label “Antilopen Money Laundering”.

In an interview regarding his favorite songs and formative moments, Danger Dan talks regarding the Leipzig a cappella pop band Die Prinzen. “That’s when I realized: ‘Hey, my parents think that’s shit!’ So I took the tram to a shop all by myself and bought a cassette with my pocket money. I’m still a huge fan of the princes and of Sebastian Krumbiegel in particular!”

Danger Dan also tells how in his early teens, thanks to his brothers, the “marriage of convenience with hip hop” began. Fugees’ “The Score” must not be missing from his list of favorite songs. As part of a hip-hop trio, Danger Dan is not averse to collaborations in terms of genre alone. The musician also talks regarding his friendship with the band Province, who invited him to the song “Our bank” to contribute

Is there a song for Danger Dan that has a happy moment anthem that makes “everything” good at the push of a button? Not quite, but the feeling of “calming down” is also a kind of happiness, he thinks, and praises Finks’ power, which exudes calm despite all the hectic pace of (tour) life „This Is The Thing“.
