With the right mix of Apple Watch, iPhone, and software, you can use your smartphone to control your wearables. Apple has added Watch Mirroring under the Accessibility umbrella, which is a great trick that anyone can take advantage of.

How to enable Apple Watch Mirroring

Apple Watch Mirroring requires Apple Watch Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, or watchOS 9 running the Ultra operating system. Unfortunately, this feature does not work on the second generation Apple Watch SE. You will also need an iPhone running iOS 16.

To use this feature, make sure your Apple Watch is turned on, unlocked, and connected to your iPhone. Make sure Airplane mode is turned off and both devices are in range.

Wait a few minutes and a connection will be established with your watch. You should now see the Apple Watch screen on your iPhone.

You can interact with your watch as if you were holding it in front of you, like clicking the Digital Crown or the side buttons.

Why do we care regarding seeing the reflection?

Watch Mirroring is an accessibility feature designed to help users who find it difficult to control their Apple Watch directly. This feature is useful for people with physical or mobility impairments, or who find it easier or more comfortable to use the iPhone screen to operate the watch.

For example, the watch’s mirroring feature allows you to start a workout, set an alarm, or measure your heart rate from your watch without having to interact directly with your watch. Siri works with most of these devices, but they may be inaccurate. Also, speaking out loud is not always possible or ideal.

Flip is also useful if you want to interact with watch functions for extended periods of time without holding your wrist in an awkward position.
