China’s US semiconductor export controls are only self-containment and self-harm

Foreign Ministry spokesperson “Can’t stop China’s development… Shocking the stability of the global supply chain”

The Chinese government criticized the U.S. measures, which have effectively banned the export of advanced semiconductor equipment to China and tightened export restrictions on certain semiconductor chips, as “self-containment and self-harm.”

Regarding the semiconductor-related export restrictions announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce on the 8th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maoning said, “The U.S. makes science and technology, economic and trade issues political instruments and weapons, but it cannot stop China’s development. will,” he said.

“The US has abused export management and control measures and maliciously blocked and suppressed Chinese companies,” Mao said.

“This method violates the principle of fair competition and violates international economic and trade rules, and will not only harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, but also affect the interests of American companies,” he said.

“This kind of behavior will hinder international science and technology exchanges and economic and trade cooperation, and will have a shock to the stability of global industrial and supply chains and the recovery of the global economy,” he said.

Earlier on the 7th (local time), the U.S. Department of Commerce announced measures to require permission to export certain semiconductor chips used in high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) learning semiconductors and Chinese supercomputers to China.

The Ministry of Commerce also banned U.S. companies from exporting semiconductor equipment to Chinese companies that produce DRAMs under 18nm (nanometers, billionths of a meter), 128-layer or higher NAND flash, and logic chips below 14nm.
