New beta firmware for AirPods

Developers who have enrolled their AirPods in beta program will receive, if they have not already done so, a new version of the firmware for their earphones and headphones. Numbered 5B5040c, the software (previously 5A304a) keeps its mysteries to itself because true to its bad habits, the manufacturer does not provide release notes.

The new settings panel and custom spatial audio are also available for Beats products.

A priori, we can bet on a final version at the same time asiOS 16.1 which will not be long. iOS 16 brought a few changes to AirPods, including a new, easier-to-find settings panel and a spatial audio customization.

On the other hand, the adaptive transparency of the new AirPods will not be not in the game for the first generation of headphones, nor for the AirPods Max. An option had surreptitiously appeared with beta 2 of iOS 16.1, but it was a bug.
