Close to the end of a new semester of the 2022 school year and within the framework of a return to practically total face-to-face attendance, the director of the Higher School of Medicine, Adrián Alasino, in dialogue with “the portrait…” noted that currently there are 5,200 students studying the degree, of which around 400 are foreigners. In turn, he announced that in March 2023 they will have the first batch of graduates, those who today there are 88 able to graduate.
The director of the Higher School of Medicine, Adrián Alasino, in dialogue withthe portrait…” analyzed what was the 2022 school year in the Medicine career of the National University of Mar del Plata, the final exams, the registration of students who register as well as emphasized what is coming and what they expect from 2023.
In this sense, Alasino highlighted that 2022 was “very positive”, following having resumed full presence in the classrooms. “Last year the practices and laboratory had been held in person, but this year it was recovered in the classroom. The year has been 100% face-to-face for the Faculty of Medicine”, stressed.
“The recovery of presence in the classroom has another color for the students. The scene is completely different. At this time, the enrollment of those who are studying is 5,200 students, of which in the first year there are regarding 1,800, which is always the most numerous year and where there are more space difficulties”, held.
– Are there already students received from the University?
-The last year is called compulsory final practice, which is the sixth year and will end in February or March 2023. There are 88 boys who will be received in this first litter and those who are finishing this first intensive year of practice, who will be the first doctors of the school. Everyone is going to take the final exam together that is taken in that week of practice with highly complex simulators. It is a long-awaited moment for all.
-Did you trust the success that this medical career might have?
-It is a fairly large litter, because although the number of people who enter per year is around 1,500 or 1,700, taking a medical degree a day is quite difficult, because it has more than 30 hours of study and another 30 of study , which makes people have to have full dedication. It is a high number if these difficulties are considered. It is a normal time that it takes between 8 and 9 years to complete a medical degree.
–¿What number of foreign students are there in the Faculty of Medicine?
-The foreigners are regarding 400 per year. 90% of these foreigners correspond to Brazilians. There are people from other countries like Colombia or Central America, but most of them are Brazilian.. When the race began there were more than 400 per year, because they were not required to have a minimum level of Spanish. Now they began to be asked for an equivalence of Spanish, that is, that they can understand the teacher, speak in a class, and so on. Over the last 4 years, that number has remained fairly stable in that regard.
Finally, he emphasized the registration process for the 2023 school year, which began last Monday and lasts for several weeks. “The first part will be online. Then it is complemented with a personal shift to bring documentation and complete the registration. Surely the number of at least 1,500 students or more will be maintained”, he pointed out while clarifying that “in the sample of universities that became medicine it has generated an important attraction”.
