Tenth Named Storm
A tenth named storm has emerged in the Atlantic: Julia. Currently, some Central American countries are in its sights, including Nicaragua and Honduras. Its winds are blowing at more than 65 km / h, but the cyclone is expected to intensify. Its speed of movement is estimated at 30 km/h.
A threatening hurricane
Julia is expected to reach Category 1 by Saturday as it intensifies in warm Atlantic waters. The storm will lose strength once it makes landfall in Central America. However, it should discharge significant amounts of water. In Nicaragua and Honduras, the rains might cause a lot of damage. In fact, this trajectory taken by this cyclone is typical of the end of the season. The presence of an area of high pressure prevents large systems from moving northward.
Deluge and landslides
In addition to Nicaragua and Honduras, the islands of San Andres and Providence are worth watching. Heavy rain is anticipated: up to 400 mm in places in just 36 hours. In 2020, Category 4 hurricane Eta ravaged the region causing more than 200 deaths, mudslides and landslides. Two weeks later, another major storm hit these countries: Iota. The effects of these storms added up to cause a real disaster.
