Will gasoline return to $2/L?

The skyrocketing price of gas has many motorists fearing a return to gas prices at the start of the year, which were above two dollars a litre.

But this new jump in prices at the pump is not likely to reach such heights, believes an expert.

“It would surprise me because demand will drop because interest rates continue to rise. We will see, in fact a reduction in demand, ”explains Normand Mousseau, Normand Mousseau, director of the Trottier Energy Institute at the Polytechnique.

The high gasoline price observed at the start of the year was also due to gasoline production problems, a situation that has since been resolved.

“At the beginning of the year, we had problems with the supply of gasoline, not just oil, so that too had contributed to increasing prices. But I don’t think we’ll reach the levels of the beginning of the year once more,” concludes Mr. Mousseau.
