With the order for two “GG5G” type vessels that it has just placed with the Chinese manufacturer Jinling, the Grimaldi group will see its ro-ro fleet of 7,800 linear meters increase from nine units to eleven.
The Chinese shipyard had already built the first eight ro-ro vessels operated by the company as well as the “Eco Italia”, the last in the series, which is due to be delivered to the Neapolitan shipping company at the end of October.
According to the group’s management, these eleven ships will be added to a series of three others already built in the workshops of the manufacturer Jinling which are operated on the northern European services of its subsidiary Finnlines.
Class 1 units Ice
Specially designed for heavy lifts, these vessels have one less upper deck and have a capacity of 5,800 linear meters.
Unlike their counterparts operating in the Mediterranean, these ships assigned to the Baltic Sea are Class 1A Ice units.
According to the Neapolitan group, this fifth generation of GG5G type ships have engines with the characteristic that they emit no pollution in ports with their scrubbers.
In the Mediterranean, the Neapolitan group uses its ro-ro ships to serve Valencia, Sagunto, Barcelona, Palma and Savona. They also stop at Livorno, Naples, Cagliari, Ravenna, Brindisi and also Catania.
