With the help of an update, Sony has made storage expansion possible on its PS5 through an NVMe SSD. A more common solution compared to Microsoft, which chooses a simpler tailor-made solution: an expansion card designed by Seagate. Quite expensive when it came out, it is currently 20% off its original price.

An easy-to-install storage solution

In releasing its next-gen consoles, Xbox partnered with Seagate to add a storage expansion card that features the same performance and runtime speeds as the console’s internal SSD. This is reserved exclusively for owners of a Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X.

It takes the form of a small memory card to be inserted behind the console to increase the storage space by 1 TB, more precisely 919.9 GB. Its small size, similar to that of an SD card, makes it easier To manipulate. No parts to disassemble, or tools required, it is simple to install. The card is immediately recognized and a notification informs us of the addition of storage space to copy and install your Xbox games.

A responsive SSD

The card integrates perfectly with the Xbox Velocity Architecture to take advantage of reduced load times on Xbox, 360, One and Series games. Compatibility with the Quick Resume feature – to launch several games at the same time – is also included.

On the other hand, during our test we found that the performance is a little reduced compared to the internal storage of the Xbox Series X | S, but this does not affect the user experience in any way. Count for example 13 additional seconds of loading time to launch Yakuza Like A Dragon. A difference that remains correct.
