“Today we lost a great woman, a great friend and companion of years of struggle in a car accident. Rest in peace, Erika Briones, municipal president of Villa de Reyes,” the state president wrote on Facebook.
In a brief meeting with the media, the president indicated that a trailer was involved in the accident, since the vehicle invaded a lane.
“Studies are going to be done to find out if the driver fell asleep. (…) Everything points to the responsible was the one of trailer“, he added.
The accident on the Poniente bypass to Villa de Arriaga at the height of the El Mezquite community. The mayor was traveling aboard a truck with two people and, in a curve at kilometer 55, they were rammed by the box of a trailer loaded with tomatoes.
Gallardo Cardona indicated that a yellow trailer got out of control on the highway, hit the vehicle where the mayor was traveling and this one “came out into a voladero (a precipice)”.
