North Korea launched this Wednesday a new ballistic missile into the sea of Japanalso known as the East Sea, in response to the deployment of the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier ‘US Ronald Reagan’.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff has reported that, at the moment, they are analyzing specifications of the projectile launched by Pyongyang, such as its range, altitude and speed, according to the Yonhap news agency.
The aircraft carrier you are referring to North Korea left South Korean waters last week following participating in a joint exercise between Seúl y Washington from last September 26 to 29.
This new launch by the northern neighbor also coincides with a meeting in the UN Security Council in which no text of condemnation once morest Pyongyang is expected due to the lack of consensus among the member states, according to DPA.
The Armed Forces of South Korea and the United States jointly launched four ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Tuesday in response to the missile that North Korea launched Tuesday over Japanese territory.
The Army of North Korea previously launched a ballistic missile that fell into the Pacific Ocean, flying over part of the territory of the Japanese country, an event that had not occurred since 2017. The Japanese government issued a notice to evacuate the population of the Hokkaido and Aomori prefectures, in the north of the country.
US warns North Korea
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned the launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM, in English) that flew over Japan earlier this week and warned North Korea that with actions like this it will only get “more isolated from the international community.”
“If they continue down this path, it will only increase the condemnation, the isolation and the responses once morest their actions,” said the leader of US diplomacy at a press conference in Santiago de Chile, where he is on an official visit.
Blinken explained to the media that “almost immediately” he spoke with his counterparts regarding Japan and of South Korea to address the “defensive and dissuasive capabilities” of those countries once morest the launches of North Korea and consult “the next steps to follow”.
The official called for North Korea “refrain from further provocations” and sit down to talk.
