Ueli Maurer’s resignation: Natalie Rickli is not running for the Federal Council

Natalie Rickli, Zurich SVP government councilor and health director, would like to refrain from running for the Federal Council. As she writes on Facebook, she honors the SVP’s request and thanks her for the vote of confidence. “I am also pleased regarding the great encouragement from the population and the many positive responses that have reached me in the past few days.” But because she wants to continue to work for Zurich’s health system, a candidate for the Federal Council is out of the question, says Rickli.

The former national councilor was considered one of the favorites to succeed Ueli Maurer. Before her, Ernst Stocker and Gregor Rutz had already rejected a candidacy. Other candidates are not yet public, but according to National Councilor Thomas Matter, talks are underway, according to the “Tages-Anzeiger». Maurer’s successor will be elected by the Federal Assembly on December 7th.
