The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was announced at 5:45 p.m. Taiwan time today, and three scholars from the United States and Denmark shared the honor. The winners are American scholar Carolyn Bertozzi, Danish scholar Morten Meldal, and American scholar K. Barry Sharpless. The conference pointed out that the three people have contributed to the research and development of Click Chemistry and Bioorthogonal chemistry.
Weng Qihui, the current president of the Health Policy Association and the former dean of the Academia Sinica, who had been very popular in the past, did not win the award this time as expected. Weng Qihui has been studying sugar science in recent years, and won the Wolf Prize in Chemistry in 2014 and the Welsh Prize in Chemistry in 2021. Since Weng Qihui won the Wolf Prize and the Welsh Prize, it was previously believed that he had a good chance of winning the Nobel Prize this year.
The 2022 Nobel Prizes will be awarded successively from the 3rd of this month. The current winners are as follows:
Biomedical Award: Svante Pääbo, an authoritative scholar of biological genetics in Sweden
Physics Prize: French scholar Alain Aspect, American scholar John Clouser, and Austrian scholar Anton Zeilinger share the honor
In addition, the Literature Prize will be announced on the 6th, the Peace Prize will be announced on the 7th, and the Economics Prize will be announced on the 10th, marking the end of the 2022 Nobel Prize season.
