Official: Bayer Leverkusen dismisses Seoane – Alonso takes over

Bayer Leverkusen has parted ways with coach Gerardo Seoane. This was announced by the penultimate table in the Bundesliga on Wednesday.

After Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at FC Porto in the Champions League, Seoane’s air grew thinner. In the all-important home game once morest FC Schalke on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) the Swiss will then no longer sit on the bench.

Seoane (43) led the Werkself to the Champions League straight away last season. In his second season in charge, not much comes together, Leverkusen won only two of twelve competitive games.

Alonso is coming

Xabi Alonso will be his successor. The Spaniard coached Real Sociedad B in the third-rate Secunda Divison B from 2019 to 2022 and following a career in which he won all the major titles as a player, he already gained experience as a head coach. The ex-Bayern star has a contract until 2024.

It’s the third change of coach this season. Previously, DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig had released Domenico Tedesco, at VfL Bochum promotion coach Thomas Reis had to go following the worst start in the club’s history.
