NGOs claim that regarding half of Korea Land and Housing Corporation’s long-term public housing are unsustainable.
The Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice held a press conference this morning at the Gyeongsilyeon Auditorium in Jongno-gu, Seoul, claiming that “44% of the 1.28 million public housing owned by LH are fakes.”
The Gyeongsilren has defined long-term jeonse public housing as ‘real’ public housing, including permanent rentals, 50-year rentals, and national rentals with 30-year rentals, as well as long-term jeonse public housing where you can live for more than 20 years at 30% of the maximum market price.
Gyeongsil-ryun, which analyzed annual rental housing inventory data by Land, Transport and Statistics Nuri, said, “Out of 1.28 million households in 2020, only 56% met the requirements.”
“The government has included in the inventory housing that cannot be considered as long-term public housing, such as 10-year lease or purchase lease, happy housing, and jeonse lease,” he said.
The Gyeongsil-ryun pointed out that “there are side effects such as a short rental period, high rent, and having to pay a high amount when converting to a pre-sale, so it is not very helpful in stabilizing the actual housing of the common people.” They demanded that the inventory ratio statistics be corrected by classifying public housing needed for stability.
He also pointed out to LH, “It is difficult to avoid criticism for focusing on making profits by selling apartments and selling forcible housing sites.”
