Protests in East German cities: Thousands demonstrate against the federal government

At a demonstration in Gera, Thuringia, around 10,000 people demanded an end to sanctions once morest Russia, according to initial police reports. The AfD head of state, Björn Höcke, also took part in the march. 370 people had previously gathered for a counter-demonstration.

In Leipzig there was a demo under the motto “For peace, freedom and self-determination”, a slogan of the “lateral thinkers” movement. According to the police, the number of participants was in the lower four-digit range. Several events took place in Dresden. Around 1,400 people had already moved through the city there on Sunday, following a call by the small right-wing extremist party Freie Sachsen.

Demos also in other East German countries

There were also other demos in Brandenburg. Again rbb reported, up to 2000 people each took part in Frankfurt (Oder) and in Cottbus.
