Going it alone in Klagenfurt: Turning off on red for cyclists: the state of Carinthia advises against it

What has long existed in many European countries – for example in the Netherlands for 30 years – has also been possible in Austria since October 1: At certain intersections, cyclists can turn right even when the traffic light is red. The district authorities and magistrates in the respective federal states determine which crossings are actually provided with the corresponding additional signs (green arrow). And they react differently to the change in road traffic regulations initiated by Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens).
