Alfa Romeo only built the Giulia GTA and GTAm 500 times – 72 of them went to Switzerland. The last Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA recently went to entrepreneur Edmond Steiger. We were present at the delivery.

Edmond Steiger has always been fascinated by Italian cars and Alfa Romeo in particular. The first car he bought with the money he had saved right following his apprenticeship in the 1980s was an Alfa Romeo GTV. “The GTV is still one of my favorites to this day, even though there was always something to do technically,” he says enthusiastically regarding his first car – even though in recent years a few valuables have lined the Steiger garage, which has now grown into a small collection .
From Alfa Romeo to Ferrari
As a collector, he has owned, among other things, an Alfa Romeo 75 QV, 156 Selespeed, a 1750 GT Bertone, an 8C Coupé and an 8C Spider – and also one or two Ferraris. “By the way, my absolute favorite is the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce from Bertone, I would never part with this model. A lot of heart and soul goes into the car and even more work on many a weekend. One more word on the subject of Ferrari: By the way, this closes the circle to Alfa Romeo once more,” says Steiger with a smile, “because Enzo Ferrari was originally race manager at Alfa Romeo.”
Latest highlight in the collection
Incidentally, Ferrari know-how is also found in the latest Alfa Romeo, which Steiger recently received: an Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm in red. And not just anywhere, but on the brand’s own Alfa Romeo test track in Balocco near Turin. Like around three quarters of all GTA customers, he opted for the even sportier m version. And the Italian beguiles even when stationary with carbon as far as the eye can see, its powerful rear wing and sporty line. A look inside shows that it is “at home” on the racetrack. There is no rear seat, but a racing cage, sports seats and racing belts. And an engine made for the track. It delivers 540 hp, and its sound is also one of the best, as Petrol-Head Steiger confirms following just a few laps.
The last is not the last
Incidentally, the fact that Steiger got the last Swiss GTA was a coincidence and not planned. “I didn’t decide on this car right away, but relatively late. But following that day, I can say: the decision was right.” And so the last GTA is now in his collection – but it will not have been the last Alfa Romeo for him.
