Ahmedabad: Long jump star Sreesankar, who was Kerala’s firm medal hope in the 2022 National Games, won silver. Sreesankar, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, did not perform well in the men’s long jump. Bronze in this category also belongs to Kerala. Muhammad Anees Yahya of Kerala won bronze in long jump.
Sreesankar, who won the silver in the men’s long jump, jumped 7.93 meters. Tamil Nadu’s Jesin Aldrin won the gold with a jump of 8.26m. Muhammad Anees jumped 7.92 meters. The national record in this event is held by Sreesankar.
Kerala also won bronze in men’s weightlifting. In the men’s 73kg category, B. Devpreethan is the bronze winner. Devpreethan lifted 281 kg. With this, Kerala’s total medal haul is four gold, three silver and four bronze.
Two national records were set at the National Games. Rosy Meena Polraj of Tamil Nadu who jumped 4.20m in women’s pole vault. S. Surekha’s record of 4.15 meters became a legend. This is also a new Games record. Tamil Nadu’s N. Ajith lifted 174 kg in the men’s 73 kg weightlifting clean and jerk, setting a new national record. Ajith won gold by lifting a total of 314 kg. Ajith broke the record of 173 kg held by Ajinta Sheilu.
At the end of the matches so far, Haryana is leading the points table. Services is second and Uttar Pradesh is third.
