Microsoft is offering a new Preview of Windows 11 through the DEV channel of the Windows Insider program. This build 25211 offers several new features, improvements and bug fixes.
The software giant explains that a few changes and improvements are the result of user feedback. The operating system is characterized by four highlights. We find a new settings experience for widgets, a new version of the Outlook client for Windows, an update of the Snipping tool (ability to automatically save screenshots) and a whole set of fixes .
One of the focus concerns the Widgets module with adjustments. Now the widget selector is opened by the “+” button and the widget settings are opened by the “Me” button.
Microsoft explains
When you open the widget settings by clicking the “Me” button pictured above, you’ll see three taskbar behaviors that you can toggle on or off.
Please note that the wording of the toggles in the widget settings is slightly different in this version compared to what is shown in the screenshot above. In a future update, this text will be updated to reflect what is in the screenshot.
The Task Manager has been added to the context menu resulting from a right click on the taskbar while a reorganization of the icons of the system tray is possible.
Note that this update to the system tray (the part where you will find the time) is being rolled out gradually.
To all this is added the correction of the bug affecting the file explorer. It made it impossible to interact with its upper part during a full screen mode (F11).
Microsoft adds that
At this time, you will no longer be able to uninstall apps with interdependencies (e.g. Steam and gaming apps running on Steam) or repair Win32 apps under Settings > Apps > Installed apps. You will still be able to modify and uninstall Win32 applications without interdependencies.
Windows 11 build 25211 also benefits from numerous fixes. They target the OS in general, File Explorer, Start, Taskbar, Settings, Task Manager and more other little things here and there.
We are on the DEV channel so this OS is not recommended on a production machine. We have a long list of known failures. Remond talks regarding problems
- of sound,
- application crashes,
- and bugs affecting the tablet-optimized Taskbar and Widgets module.
