The flu vaccination campaign begins on Wednesday

HEALTH. Fall is well underway and it’s time to think regarding the flu shot.

The annual campaign begins on October 5. This year, two vaccines will be offered. Each includes antigens representing two viruses type A and type B.

People with a chronic illness, the elderly and their loved ones are encouraged to make an appointment to be vaccinated in order to be protected once morest the complications of the flu.

As in years past, the vaccine is free for those deemed most at risk:

  • people over the age of 75;
  • children 6 months and older, adults and pregnant women with diabetes, heart, lung, kidney disease or weakened immune systems;
  • pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters;
  • people living under the same roof as a child under 6 months old or a person at risk, as well as their caregivers;
  • healthcare workers, especially those providing direct patient care.

Although children aged 6 to 23 months and people aged 60 to 74 are not targeted by this campaign, they will still be able to receive the vaccine free of charge.

Once once more this year, the vaccine is available to everyone in participating pharmacies and in CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS vaccination centres. However, fees are provided for customers who are not targeted by this campaign and they will only be able to receive the vaccine in pharmacies.

It is also possible to make an appointment to receive a new dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time at the vaccination centres.

To make an appointment, just go to the portal www.clicsante.ca or call 1-877-817-5279.
