The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the “terrorist” attack on an educational center in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
Riyadh crossed in statementOn Friday, it condemned the attack, affirming its total rejection of “all forms of violence, terrorism and extremism”, stressing its “solidarity with the Afghan people”, and its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased.
At least 20 people were killed in Kabul on Friday in the suicide attack that targeted an educational center crowded with students in a neighborhood where the Shiite Hazara minority lived, and most of the victims were girls.
“The students were preparing for an exam when a suicide bomber blew himself up in this educational center,” said Khaled Zadran, a Kabul police spokesman. “Unfortunately 20 people were killed and 27 others were wounded,” he added, according to AFP.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan noted that “according to the information it has, at least 24 people were killed and 36 others were injured.”
Dasht al-Brashi neighborhood has witnessed in recent years and since the Taliban regained power in 2021, several attacks claimed by ISIS in Khorasan, the regional branch of the organization that rejects the Shiite sect and other minorities.
Education is a very sensitive issue in Afghanistan, where the Taliban prevents many girls from pursuing secondary education. ISIS also opposes the education of women and girls.
In May 2021, a series of bombings took place in front of a girls’ school in the same neighborhood, killing 85 people, most of them schoolgirls, and wounding more than 300.
