(CNN Spanish) – Bad Bunny came as the biggest finalist and ended the night as the most awarded of the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2022. The Puerto Rican rapper took 9 statuettes, including the one that declares him the artist of the year.
His compatriot Farruko was the second biggest winner of the night, taking home 4 awards for his hit “Pepas”.
Karol G is the third biggest winner of the night, taking precisely 3 Latin Billboards, including vocal collaboration of the year for “Mamiii” with Becky G.
Aventura, Eslabón Armado, Grupo Firme and Rauw Alejandro won two Billboard Latin Awards each.
Ozuna, Caliber 50, Los Angeles Azules, Carlos Vives, Tini, Manuel Turizo, Piso 21, Camilo, Grupo Firme, Farruko and Elvis Crespo also performed at the event.
Bad Bunny and Karol G were absent from the ceremony because they are on their respective tours.
The Latin Billboard Special Awards
Chayanne, who presented his new song “Como tú y yo”, received the Billboard Icon award from Afo Verde, a friend of the singer and CEO of Sony Music Latin, his label.
Christina Aguilera also received a special honor, the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award. It was awarded for Aguilera’s altruistic work in various social causes, including her harassment, her fight for human rights, support for the LGBTQ community and the fight for the eradication of HIV / AIDS.
Raphael received the award Billboard Artistic Career for his more than six decades in the music industry. The Spaniard was accompanied by his compatriot Pablo López and the boyband Latin, CNCO, who together with Linares performed some of their hits.
One of the most emotional moments of the night is when Nicky Jam received the Hall of Fame award from his father, José Rivera. Both did not contain the tears and joined in a long hug.
Finally, José Feliciano received the 1st Billboard Legend Award. Feliciano accepted the award through a video. He was unable to join the ceremony due to Hurricane Ian, which hit South Florida the day before the ceremony.
The themes that premiered during the Billboard
The stage of the Watsco Center in Miami was the perfect setting for some artists to present their new songs.
In addition to Chayanne with “Como tú y yo” and Raphael, who premiered “De tantan gente”, Maluma was one of those who surprised by presenting his new song “Junio”. In addition, his followers were speechless when at the end of the presentation, he approached his girlfriend – who was in the audience – and planted a kiss on her mouth.
Camilo also presented the official theme of the Qatar 2022 World Cup on Telemundo, a network that broadcasts the World Cup in the United States. This is not the first time that the Colombian has presented a theme for a football league or event. In 2021 he joined the Spanish LaLiga with an adaptation of the song “Kesi” and became in the first artist to musicalize a season of Iberian football.
